Can BigCommerce handle a dropshipping store?

Hannes
I’m planning to open a dropshipping store for home improvement products and have been looking at BigCommerce as the main platform. I understand how to build the storefront, but I can’t figure out what happens after a customer places an order. Does BigCommerce connect directly with suppliers, update their prices and stock, and send orders to them, or do I need separate apps for all of that? I’d also like to know which suppliers work with it before I commit to a paid plan.

The supplier should come before the store setup because that choice determines what you’ll need to connect later. Supplier directories usually give you a ready-made catalog and a direct store connection, while sourcing from Amazon, Walmart, or AliExpress gives you more products but requires additional automation. Decide which of those models fits your store, then check whether the supplier supports product updates, order processing, and tracking through BigCommerce.

BigCommerce itself manages the storefront, payments, and catalog, while the supplier connection handles the dropshipping side of the business. That’s why the answer depends on both the sourcing model and the automation available for it. You can read about BigCommerce dropshipping here: https://easync.io/articles/bigcommerce-dropshipping/ . The article compares supplier options, explains how the store is connected to them, and covers price, stock, order, and tracking automation. It should help you understand what BigCommerce does on its own and what you’ll need to add before launching.
