I have been thinking about how developers should deal with older PHP applications that are still running fine in production but have become difficult to maintain.
Sometimes the code is messy, the dependencies are outdated, and adding a new feature takes much longer than it should. At the same time, rewriting everything from scratch can introduce new bugs and consume a lot of time.
When considering legacy software modernization, how do you decide whether to refactor the existing code, upgrade the framework, or rebuild the application?
I would be interested to hear from developers who have worked on older PHP projects. What approach worked best for you, and what would you avoid doing again?
